New Media

 What Forms of New Media Do You Use Daily? 

On a daily basis I use Facebook to connect with high school friends and watch their lives play out in front of thousands of people.  Most people journal their daily lives on Facebook.  I enjoy looking at the pictures that they watching the videos that they post. I also look to Facebook to obtain information on current events.  

I check my Twitter account, to see what is going on in the lives of my celebrity friends.  Twitter is where  look to see who is getting a divorce, which rapper is "beefing" with the next, which celebrity is pregnant, getting married or fighting in an elevator.  Celebrities enjoy playing their lives out on any screen available.  When most of them are on hiatus from their sitcoms, or their last movie debuted last summer, they enjoy battling with their friends, family and spouses on Twitter.  They know we are watching the screens of our tablets, computers and smart phones.

I check You tube to catch-up on t.v. shows that I missed.  I look at past scenes from shows like The Voice to see contestants that I really liked.  I watch music videos to some of my favorite songs.  I also listen to songs that  I like but I have not took the time to purchase the CD.








How Has New Social Media Influenced Your Perspective of Events?

Many times social media is the first place I look to find out what happened the night before.  I learned about the death of Myaya Angelou and the late great Casey Kasem on Facebook.  I read about all of the engagement and wedding details of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on social media.  




    




 Are These Positive or Negative Influences?

I feel the influence on social media can be positive and negative.  I use social media for positive reasons and mostly for entertainment purposes.  I take it all at face value.  I do not force my opinion on anyone and I do not post comments on any of the sites.

Many people use social media in negative ways.  People use social media as a way to bully people or as a way to say offensive things and hide behind their computers.  If we all use social media responsibly it can be a place to obtain information on current events and get the latest local, national news and entertainment news.
