How Do You Get Your News?

How do you know what you know?
In this age of new media I obtain most of my information from the internet.  Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter post update national and local news.  I usually double check the information by watching my local news on television or checking CNN or HLN.

Name one new thing you learned using a social media site today and explain why you believe it is true.
I learned started March of 2015 drivers in Texas will no longer be required to have an inspection sticker on their windshield.  Drivers will be required to get an inspection at least 90 days before their registration expires to obtain a registration sticker.   It’s like a “marriage” between the inspection and the registration sticker.  This will allow drivers to have only one date to keep track of instead of two.   It still requires two steps, but there will only be one sticker required on the vehicle.  I believe it is true because I checked the news source and it came from a local television station in Houston, Texas.

What source did you use to acquire this information?
I obtained the information about the inspection stickers in Texas from Facebook. I went to http://kxan.com/2014/06/24/texas-to-no-longer-require-auto-inspection-sticker/ to verify the information.

At times, are social media sites reliable for obtaining credible information?
I believe social media sites are a reliable way to obtain creditable information.  When Casey Kasem passed way a few days ago his daughter posted his passing on Facebook.  Maya Angelou’s son posted a statement about his mother’s death on a social media site.  Many times social media is where most PR representatives release statements regarding their clients.  In most cases social media is the place where celebrities confirm or deny stories that are leaked about them and their families.
